The Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik, who has so far represented his country in 26 Tests, 94 ODIs and 32 T20Is, got married to Nitika Vanjara (now, Murali Vijay wife, Nikita Vijay) in 2007 in Mumbai. But this was not an arranged marriage. Nikita’s father and Dinesh’s father were good friends and their children grew up together. The duo had a good bond from childhood and they took their friendship to next level when the wicketkeeper-batsman was only 21 years old.
After marriage, Nikita was spotted supporting his husband in all matches from international to domestic tournaments. Karthik was also becoming a prominent player for India.
The happy relationship between the couple went ugly in 2012 when as per media reports, Karthik found out about the affair between his wife and his close Tamil Nadu friend Murali Vijay. The wicketkeeper ended the five-year marriage with Nikita that year. Both kept quiet about all the controversies going around about their divorce. Some reports even said that Nikita was pregnant with Karthik’s first child when the couple divorced. The speculations got more air when Nikita married Vijay only months after parting away with Dinesh.
However, the trio kept quiet on all the gossips and moved forward in their life. But the juggle in personal life affected Karthik’s performance in cricket. Because of the fierce competition for a place with MS Dhoni, Karthik remained in and out of the Indian side. He didn’t play an ODI from 2011 to 2012 during which he was also disturbed with his personal life. The gloveman was recalled in 2013 but never has been consistent in the XI. Dinesh Karthik tied the knot with his second wife Dipika Pallikal in 2015 after over a two-year-long relationship.
After marriage to Vijay, Murali Vijay wife, Nikita welcomed their first baby boy named Nirav in 2013. But the identity of the father of her first son was also a hot topic for tabloids. As some reported that she was pregnant during the divorce.
However, now, Nikita and Murali are parents of three children. The second child is a girl named Eva. In 2017, they were blessed with a boy, who was named Aarav. During her third pregnancy, she appeared in a photoshoot for Amrita Samant, a maternity, newborn, and child photographer based in Bangalore, with her son and her daughter.
Nikita Vijay is quite active on social media, especially on her Instagram where she has 37.1k followers. She keeps posting pictures with her hubby and children. During the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), she also posted in support of his husband’s franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) although Murali Vijay had a disappointing season.
Talking about Nikita Vijay’s professional front, she is an entrepreneur. She opened her new fitness venture, Tattva — The Studio, with the interior designer Ram Krish in 2020. As her husband is a fitness freak, Nikita is carrying forward the same. The studio offers a variety of movement-based workouts from aerial/mat yoga, animal flows, elements-based yoga, and dance-based exercises, among other programs, the studio aims to promote fitness and healthy living. She is also the owner of the clothing brand, Label Eva, which offers premium clothing for girls from ages 2-8.
At the age of 17, Vijay started playing club cricket and caught the eyes with his batting prowess. He quickly came up the ranks and made his first-class debut for the Tamil Nadu senior team in 2006. He was one of the top run-scorers of the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy, which was his maiden first-class tournament. During Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2008, he got lucky and made his Test debut after the team’s regular opener Gautam Gambhir was banned for one match by the ICC. He played the final Test and impressed with his performance. However, he was not permanent in the playing XI and was only used as a replacement.
However, after Gambhir was dropped, Vijay earned the opening spot but injuries halted his career. He went on to play 61 Test matches in which he scored 3982 runs, including 12 centuries and 15 half-centuries. He was dropped from the Test team in 2018.
Apart from an international career, Murali Vijay is a prominent name in domestic cricket. He has played 94 List A and 169 T20s. Talking about IPL, he was a vital cog in CSK’s successful 2010 campaign as he amassed as many as 458 runs to finish as the second-highest run-getter for the side. He has also played for Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab before again moving to CSK in 2018.
In the IPL 2020, he featured in three matches but gave a slow start to CSK which ended up in a losing cause. He scored only 32 runs at the strike rate of 74.41 and CSK is unlikely to retain him. However, Murali Vijay wife, Nikita Vijay has always stood in his support, cheering him up in all his ups and downs.
