Pakistan-born Imran Tahir credits spouse Sumayya for his switch to South Africa

Age is no barrier for South Africa’s veteran leg spinner Imran Tahir. Despite being 42 years old, Tahir is one of the renowned personalities in the South Africa cricket and T20 league across the globe. The Pakistan-born donned the South Africa jersey for the first time in a Day International against West Indies in February 2011. 

Imran Tahir is a googly-spin bowler who plays internationally for South Africa. Although he was born in Pakistan, he moved to reside in South Africa in the year 2006 and has garnished his bowling skills while playing for the country. He is considered one of the world-class bowlers because of his great display of performance in each format of the game. His stats in ODI cricket are brilliant with 173 as the total wickets in just 107 games. In the Indian Premier League, he used to play for Chennai Super Kings, and there too he proved himself. Sumayya Dildar was a model by profession but she gave up her flourishing career to be a full-time homemaker and act as a support system for her cricketer husband. Imran’s first meeting with Sumayya happened when the leg spinner toured South Africa while being a part of Pakistan’s Under-19 team.

It was his wife who inspired Tahir to shift his base to South Africa as Sumayya was quite clear about not leaving her country. To be with the love of his life, the 42-year-old decided to relocate to the Proteas country and start his cricketing career from the scratch. The Lahore-born tied the knot with Dildar in 2007 in a private ceremony. The couple is now parents to an adorable son, Gibran.
